It's Time to Outlaw the Death Penalty

Image
Deciding against the death penalty should be more common in Oklahoma. According to jury foreman Mark Castelli, the death penalty received a 10-2 vote inside the jury room. This is not too surprising in Oklahoma where the cultural blood thirst for crimes is almost unquenchable. If planning the date, time, method, and place of someone's killing is horrible and abhorrent in a civilized society, then certainly it's equally terrible when the government engages in such activities. Particularly when the government has a record of killing innocent people. While there is a "common sense" idea among the populace that an eye for an eye is a just way of dealing with criminals, it seems to run counter to the message of Jesus in a state that claims to be the "buckle of the bible belt." It's way past time to end capital punishment in our society and work to civilize our culture along side these reforms in our criminal justice system.   http://newsok.com/article/...
